Futurewave is a product innovation studio based in Brussels, shaping the future of consumer technology. We work across strategy, design, engineering, and manufacturing to build meaningful products and experiences. Our approach is fast, lean, and deeply user-centered. We’ve collaborated with over 50 companies—from Decathlon and Renault to Cowboy and Nokia—and have launched award-winning products across Europe and Asia.
We're now looking to reinforce our AI & Technology team with a skilled Back-end Engineer to design and operate the digital infrastructure behind our embedded, connected devices.
What you'll do
- Design, implement, and maintain REST APIs that communicate with our connected devices in the field
- Architect back-end systems that manage sessions, media assets, firmware logic, and telemetry
- Build and optimize cloud-based infrastructure using Node.js, Express, Docker, and Supabase (PostgreSQL)
- Ensure secure and scalable communication between hardware and cloud via BLE, WiFi, and 4G+ gateways
- Integrate protocols such as MQTT, HTTP, WebSocket, or CoAP where needed for device-to-cloud sync
- Collaborate with embedded, hardware, and front-end engineers to ensure seamless full-stack execution
- Write clean, testable code with CI/CD pipelines and monitor live deployments in production
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of experience in back-end engineering, ideally for connected or IoT products
- Strong skills in JavaScript/TypeScript with Node.js and Express
- Experience working with cloud-native stacks like Supabase, Firebase, or AWS (we use Supabase)
- Solid understanding of networking protocols: TCP/IP, HTTP(S), WebSocket, MQTT, and similar
- Familiarity with embedded and IoT device communication flows (sessions, firmware updates, edge triggers)
- Experience with Docker, Git, and continuous deployment pipelines
- SQL fluency (PostgreSQL preferred) and ability to structure relational data for device-based apps
- Comfort with debugging device-to-cloud edge cases and optimizing system performance
- Fluency in English is required; French or Dutch is a plus
Your profile
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
- System-level thinker who understands the lifecycle of connected devices
- Curious and confident around embedded systems, even if not coding firmware yourself
- Strong team player who can work with designers, engineers, and product owners
- Independent and pragmatic, with a bias toward building quickly and improving iteratively
